Popocatépetl, the nearly 18,000 foot volcano living at the border of Puebla and Morelos states in central Mexico, has started a series of small eruptions, which could presage something more violent. (last month)
The authorities in Mexico are setting up preparations for an evacuation around the Popocatepetl volcano, in case of a major eruption.
Actually the volcano, near Mexico City, has been spewing glowing rock fragments and ash from more than 60 openings in its crust.
Firstly I have to say these images are amazing, and we have to be great full to technology. In the last twenty years, the death rates related to natural disaster have decreased. How? Well thanks to the prediction system that have been set up throughout the whole planet.
ReplyDeleteWe know have satellites which are able to predict tsunamis, storms, volcano eruptions and in many cases earthquake. Like in everything, because these machines have been designed and made by us humans, there are always errors. However, this does not mean that they haven’t been able to save many people. If the scientists predict more or less the intensity of a storm, earthquake or other phenomen, safety procedures and rescuing action plans can start immediately. What’s more, we are not only talking about saving human lives, but also reducing costs in mending and rebuilding cities and infrastructures. Also, it avoids loosing all the agriculture and defiantly the animals can also be saved.
In this case, it’s certainly very positive that Mexican citizens near the volcano have been warned so they can get their essentials and leave the place safely. Also, their culture is very different and things like family, happiness and love are extremely important whereas, they’re not so materialist, as they don’t owe much. By this, I am referring specially to the area mentioned in the video, which is a rural village.
In my opinion, the authorities in Mexico should be really informed of what is happening and being ready for any emergency escape. A volcano eruption can be really dangerous and could kill lots of people. Although local people might refuse to loose their houses, they’ve got nothing to do.
ReplyDeleteVolcano eruptions are really powerful and have great influence not only in the country where it occurs but the zones near to them, I actually remember that not a long time ago at least half of the European airports where closed for the eruptions of an Iceland volcano.
What it should be done is to precise the maximum as possible the information and evacuate at least to weeks before there’s a big eruption everyone so that any last minute problem can occur.
