Drogba, a legend

Decesive penalty scored by Drogba to Neuer

When Didier Drogba completed Chelsea's quest for a Champions League title on Saturday, he did it in his unique way as a true proffessional of world football.
Drogba scored the decisive penalty to defeat Bayern Munich in the shootout, after scoring Chelsea a goal in the 88th-minute, leveling the match at 1-1. Eventhough Bayern played really good, attacking constantly and whatsmore, playing home, they could not stop the fearfull Drogba.
The 34-year-old talisman's played with a tremendous intensity since losing 3-1 to Napoli in a last 16, first-leg match in February.
Roman Abramovich, the club's russian owner , deposited his faith on the new Chelsea`s coach, Roberto di Matteo, after firing the coach Andre Villas-Boas. Di Matteo responded by masterminding a stirring comeback against Napoli, defeat of Benfica and the epic defensive action to eliminate Barcelona in the semifinals.

"Football, like life, is unpredictable and crazy," Di Matteo said. "Nobody could have predicted the last three months. To finish like this is incredible. Whatever the future holds for me, I'd be happy."
Abramovich now has the fascinating decision of whether to reward Di Matteo by entrusting his billion-dollar investment to the 41-year-old Italian on a permanent contract.
"The way we turned things around against Napoli, Barcelona, I think we deserve this trophy," Drogba said. "The last kick of the season and what a way to do it now."

  1. There is no doubt that Didier Drogba is one of the most emblematic and more acclaimed football players in both Chelsea and the whole of Europe.
After more than eight years in Chelsea’s squad, the Champions League trophy was the one that he still had not won (as well as Chelsea), so he had a quite outstanding debt with himself and the team when reaching the final.
In the end, what better than winning the Champions League for the first time? And close to the end of your career? And not only winning, but scoring both goals which ended up being decisive? There are many attributes which gathered together, form the most desirable feeling for a football player, and especially Drogba, well-known for his intensity during the game and being a player who lives for football.
I personally think that this may well be the best possible reward that football can have paid Drogba back with.

  2. Didier Drogba is one of the best "killers" of the history of football. Didier has it all, he scores goals, he defenses, he wins for the team, and sacrifices in the pitch.
This weekend Drogba showed to all the football hooligans a lesson of how to play football.
Although he hasn't won many individual trophies we all know that is one of the best players that actually can make the difference.

  3. No one would disagree if I say that Didier Drogba is one of the best players ever. He was born in Ivory Coast, and made his way to Europe by showing his skills and potential to become what he has become nowadays. Not only is he one of the top scorers of Chelsea’s history, but also one of the top scorers of his national team.

He has received several awards, such as the best African player of the year in 2006, or the nomination for the FIFA world player in 2008. For the last eight years, he has been playing in Chelsea Football Club, one of the beast teams in the world. In 2008, they reached the champions league final but lost in the penalty shootout. This was a very hard moment for Drogba, because he was already 30 years old, and evidence seemed to suggest that he would not play another final after this one, because the whole Chelsea’s squad was much older than the average.

This was until this year, when Chelsea, against all odds, made his way to the Champions league final, with Drogba still at the front. His opponent, Bayern Munchen, was a very difficult opponent, and despite the match being levelled, Bayern scored a goal when there were only ten minutes to go to the extra time. Chelsea’s fans didn’t lose their faith in his team, and jumped for joy when Drogba, at the age of 34, scored a great header after a corner shot, when there were only two minutes to go.

The match went on into the 30 minutes of extra time but none of the teams managed to score, so the match had to be decided in the penalty shootout. Chelsea had a very bad memory of their last shootout, and we could see Roman Abramovich, Chelsea’s president, covering his face to try to chill out. Finally, Cech, Chelsea’s goalkeeper, stopped two penalties, and Drogba had to shoot the decisive one. If he scored, his team was the new European champion. Drogba’s shoot was hard, and to the goalkeeper’s right, and into the goal. After this match, it is clear that Didier Drogba is one of the best players in our present time, and probably one of the best players of all history.

  4. This man is a legend, he has played at high-level for a lot of years in Chelsea, which is not easy as playing always in a big team is difficult as this big clubs are used to sign in new players each seasons. As Hugo says, this man has made history, he has all of my respects at least, I am one of his thousands of fans who watch him always.
