As you might already know, the
winner of this year’s Eurovision Festival is Sweden, whose entry was sung by
Loreen.
It was a masterful performance as
the Swedish singer, used her breath-taking voice and great choreography to take
advantage of the effect of the wind machine.
Russia stood in second place on the
podium represented by a group of old grandmothers who were actually very funny
despite they didn’t sing well or have any kind of choreography.
The following videos are the performances
of Sweden and Spain:
This leads us to thinking whether
the contest is corrupted by political agreements.
Although Sweden has turn out to be
the winner, it is also argued that the competition is quite unfair. Many people
say that each country votes to their neighbour’s or to the country in which
they have political interest.
Do you agree with this argument? Did
Spain, which settled in the tenth place, deserve by far more votes than Sweden
or Russia? What to you think is
the key to winning? Is it singing in English, having a singer with a great
voice or simply putting on strange performances such as the Chiquilicuatre in
2008?
Nicole Pattje
It seems to me that the show was quite unfair. First of all, I heard that some people (politics) actually told the Spanish singer to not win because the celebration of winning the show could have cost a lot of money, and since Spain has no money it could not have afforded that, so what they did was try to avoid that cost. Moreover, a lot of people might argue that the reason why Sweden won is because of the neighbor countries, which could be possible and is absolutely unfair.
ReplyDeleteFrom where I sit, the Spanish show wasn’t that good: no chore until the last few seconds, no decoration, no fireworks,… But on the other hand, the singer did it so well so if the show would have been fair Spain could have been the first one.

Well, I'm the type of person that arrives home from school and lies in bed for 5 minutes in order to listen to some good music in my Ipod. I love music and I think I wouldn't be able to live without it. However I think that all eurovision songs are junk and pointless. Russia's performance can clearly support my opinion. I don't think that those grannies were actually singing as it didn't even seem as music to me.
ReplyDeleteI may also say that Spain has done a remarkable improvement this year, as Chikilicuatre made us look as if we were all quite stupid.

I couldn't agree more with Claudia's comment. I hate the eurovision contest, and all the music they produce.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't able to see that much this year due to our exams, but I did see Russia's performance and I can't agree more with her by saying that it can't be considered as music.
I don't think spain deserved more votes than sweeden, as I didn't enjoy Spain's performance, it was quite boring.

I must say that I disagree with most of the comments above. My family and I have this typical “tradition” where we eat supper together while watching the Eurovision Festival every year. I know it’s not the best music ever and I know that the participants aren’t the best dancers ever, but it is quite fun, and some songs are quite good.
ReplyDeleteHowever, after watching this year after year it is clear that all countries end up voting for their neighbours and that it is all definitely related to political interest. But, despite this, we still like to watch it as this cheers everyone up, it is a good way to spend your time and we still shout when Portugal or UK vote for us and that’s why I think Spain deserved more votes than what we actually had, but not as much as Sweden.
Euphoria was a great song and a great performance after all. Nevertheless Russia was just incredible! We laughed our heads off when we saw them they were hilarious and things like this always make you and Europe smile. I just want to finish by adding that we need more of these contests going on as it’s a great way to disconnect from what’s going on actually in Europe.
I think the advertisement that affects the most psychologically is the number 8.
ReplyDeleteWhy? It’s easy, humans have always live in a world of materialism and this advertisement represents a man that obtains Doritos without doing anything.
However its also represents that humans have treated animals always the same if they do something they give a piece of biscuit or something to make the dog do what his master says so. In this advert they have switch the roles. The dog pays the human for doing what he says so.

Looking at this post, I found it really interesting as during the summer, Loreen with "Euphoria" have occupied the first place in numerous artistic musical lists as the 40 P, Cadena 100... I support Loreens voice and the whole theme of the song as I think it's a really good song, as I love the rhythm. I recognize Loreens capability of keeping up such a high tone of voice in the chorus amazes me... I've listened so many times this song during the summer I could say it's been one of the top songs having success over others.
ReplyDeleteI agree with María that the rhythm is fantastic in Loreen's song, but I'm not sure that the song offers much more. So when María suggests that it's been one of the best songs of the summer, enjoying far more success than others, I'm left worrying that the other songs must have been pretty bad!
