What a wave!

Have you seen this video? At least 880,000 other people have (there are various versions on Youtube) in the last three days alone (at time of posting). So maybe you should take a look!

Do you surf? Do you want to after seeing this? What does or would it feel like to ride such a wave?

  1. I have seen this on the news and it is amazing! It is an incredible wave for those who like surf and it is quite a challenge for them surfers. I don't surf but I think I would be very impressed by the size of the wave and I don't think I could manage to do it. I don't know if it could even be dangerous for those who wouldn't have much experience as such a big wave should only be surfed by professionals.
It is also a memorable and unique experience if you get to surf this wave as this means you are very good and brave.

  3. That's just amazing! How on earth they can do that?
I've never seriously practiced surf but watching this video makes want to do it!
I can imagine the sensation of being up there:Free,excited,nervous... I would love to be able to surf that wave after seeing this video although is a bit dangerous but you need to take extremes situations througout your life because then it's boring the same thing every day.

  4. It's really speechless.
I saw this video some days ago, and i am a surfer and just could not belive it, i have been in the Basque country, surfed maximum maybe 2 meter waves or more sometimes, but a 27 feet wave is just ridiculous, that's a monster from nature, and the funny thing it's not in middle of the pacific ocean or in a rare place, it is in the iberian peninsula, specificaly Portugal, our neighbours.

About the wave you can just see how big it is compared to the surfer, it mush have been amazing to go down the wave, being so big it must have been eternal. Surfing so big waves is so dangerous, he even has to be toed in to position by jet-skis, because it's too big and you need speed to surf it, also it's not a typical surf board, you feet are attached to the board for if you gain too much speed or there is a lump you don't fall and get eaten by the wave which could wrap you, push you to the deep of the sea and even kill you, i have experienced some wipeouts (when you fall of a wave) and even a simple Mediterranean 1.5 wave can give you a very big fright.

  5. I totally agree with all of the comments.
I think those surfers don't have any major problems on surfing those huge waves because they have loads of experience so they don't find it as a objective but as a way to enjoying themselves. I would really like surfing someday because it is sport which you can enjoy and pass a good time with youre friends.

  6. Me as a surfer I think it’s the most incredible thing in the world. I’m just a beginner but I have been in Galicia and I surfed waves of 2 meters more or less and its like being apart. It’s like the time stops, the wave is approaching and while you paddle you only think in being surfing that wave it’s like a marvelous ride. This video is amazing and the surfer is magnificent, but I have seen lot wore videos. The formation of this wave is perfect, it’s a left wave. It’s easy to surf if you are able to manage with the surfboard and more important with your feelings. Because being under a wave such as this one is not a funny thin.
Getting this wave it could be great, it’s big, easy, there’s no people you only hear and perceive the friction of the wind in your body, the wave braking in your back. I I could be there and know as half as that surfer I will certainly go there and surf that wave feeling as if the world ends.

  7. I also saw this on the news some days ago, and, what can I say? It's absolutely incredible. I think that if I was the surfer, I would be incredibly nervous and apprehensive, since it’s extremely dangerous to surf waves of such a height. But at the same time, if I surfed a wave such as this one, I would feel free, wild, liberated, speechless… Nevertheless, to be honest, I don’t think I could ever be able to describe exactly what the surfer felt at that precise moment. I think this is one of those things that only those who have experienced it can actually describe, none of us can really know what he felt, we can only imagine it. Still, I sense that any man mastering nature must feel an endless sensation of self-satisfaction. Furthermore, I think that, in a way, surfing is a ‘man versus nature game’, a risky one, though. A game in which the surfer risks his life to feel, once again, that addicting sensation of riding down the vertical wave, of feeling the power of the killing sea against the surfboard, the wind neatly against the skin, the aching of the muscles… That unique sensation in which nothing matters and the only important thing is to enjoy the present moment, that moment that one wishes will last forever.

  8. What an amazing and impressing video! This video leaves me speechless! I've never surfed before but I think the sensations must be spectacular. Surfing a wave like this must give you a lot of adrenaline and a very nice experience, but surfing against this huge wave is too dangerous! There are very little people in the world capable of surfing this enormous wave, this surfer must be mad.
After seeing this video I'm desperate on surfing, I want to try it because this video really gives me goose bumps.
Thanks for posting this interesting video

  9. I had to watch this video two times before believing it. Surfing such a wave must be a suicidal action. I totally share my feelings with all of the above comments, what must that surfer be feeling? It must be an unforgettable experience where adrenaline rules your body and rubs all of the negative thoughts off your mind. I’d love to feel so much freedom and wildness achieving the adrenaline feeling as it must make you see life from a completely different point of view. The surfer’s freedom while surfing that infinite wave can be compared to an abstract image as floating in space, where you’re on your own in the middle of nowhere and the only important thing is the happiness that you’re feeling.
Actually, I haven’t surfed ever but I know how surfing the snow feels like, although surfing a wave is totally different, and especially if it’s of that size. While watching the video instead of rejecting the idea of surfing I felt attracted to that risky action. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t be able to face the challenge once there.

  10. It is unreal!! I saw this video a few days ago and I couldn’t believe it! I told all my friends that surf and they didn’t believe me! Haha but then they saw the news and see this amazing video. If I had the enough experience for doing it I would try and doing it because in 20 years you will be more disappointed by what you didn’t do that by what you did. Also because I surfer brand has invented a new neoprene that when you fell from waves likes this you pull a lever and all the neoprene inflates with air and it takes you to the surface. So with the enough experiences, skills and equipment I would also try to ride this wave!

I'm not really up to surfing, but when seeing these kinda waves i wouldd like to. I think that when people who are not surf practicisers watch this kind of videos think that surfing might be quite cool and easy enough for anyone to do it, but i've tried more than once surfing and it is not as easy at it seems. Believe me!

  12. As the news showed, this man has now the satisfaction and qualification of saying that he has ridden the biggest wave no-one ever has surfed. Seriously, the moment I saw this I thought that there was something fishy there, but soon realised that there wasn't, it was real.
Just as a surf beginner, having surfed waves that do not even overpass 2 meters, I have to say that being able to ride a wave, no matter the size, it is simply the most incredible sensation anyone can experience. Sensing the water rubbing against the board and feeling the flow on top of it is absolutely amazing. So imagine riding such a wave. Apart from all these perfect and relaxing feelings, they surely appear symptoms of fear and scare, beacuase it is in that moment where the surfer realises the danger of this sport and has to adopt a responsible posture, but if self-confidence and bravery appear, the best thing is to give it a try, because these little moemnts appear very few times in life and that's why we have to take advantage of them and, in this case, release ourselves and set free a huge dosis of adrenaline and feel the most privileged person on Earth for being able to experience such an intense moment.
