Vandalism or Art?

Do you really think practicing this "city sport" represents a vandalic act? Nowadays the youth usually  spend their time recording road descensions in a very risky way. Do you think they do it to rebel themself and free their acomulated adrenaline or its simply another way of Art expression?

  1. It’s and art!! The streets are free for everyone!! And their should be free for be ridden if that is done without harming nobody. What makes it vandalism? Vandalism is painting walls, breaking the shop windows or stealing…
But why is ‘surfing the streets’ a act of vandalism? according to the English dictionary vandalism is the wanton or deliberate destruction caused by a vandal or an instance of such destruction. Longboarding doesn’t cause destructions so it is not vandalism!!

  2. I totally agree with Santi but its not necessarily always true.
There are some people who take things to the extreme and don’t know when to stop, so even though many of you boys use long boards in a responsible way, many other people may not respect public spaces in the city, so I think that is the reason why sometimes people consider long boarding as an act of vandalism.
I think the cities should provide more areas where the people can practise this sport or hobby to avoid misunderstanding with citizens who might not understand why they do it or they might feel uncomfortable when they are walking in the streets and skaters rolling next to them.
For some, it may be a way of liberating themselves and for others a way of art, but the point is that either way should be accepted by society unless it involves any act of vandalism like what Santi listed above.

  3. I think this is an art! Skating or long boarding in this case is a way of showing what these youngsters are good at. They want to show the world their skills as they are very talented. They really dominate and have full control of the situation so I think there is no problem. I think it's a great way of letting everyone know what they are good at and inciting others to do the same thing, to show the world what they are good at.

  4. I think longboarding and skateboarding are an art, but they should be practised, as Maria Miarnau said, in closed areas provided by the government in order to reduce danger with citizens.
I would like to relate longboarding with Graffiti Drawing. This could be also a dilemman as it could be thought an art and vandalism at the same time. However, as it means drawing on public walls, where people can see them and be offended, people tend to think of it as vandalism.

In my opinion, both longboarding and graffiti drawing are an art. They are just a way of expressing there ideas, showing-off their skills, and trying to -as dani roura said- incite the world to do the same thing.

  5. Wow! That was amazing Hugo, what a nice video!I am delighted with these skaters, it's amazing the skills and tricks these guys manage to do.
I'm with you Santi, skating is an art while you don't go beyond the law. Meanwhile I consider this activity a bit dangerous, not only for the skaters, it is also dangerous for the citizens as they can cause car accidents.
It has a lot of merit the effort they have done, despite I should consider them to practise it in a closed enclousere.
Thank's a lot Hugo for this video, it's great!

  6. i loved this video, it was very nice and how this skaters did their jumps and the skills they showed during the video is incredible. i accept that santi tries to defend the skaters and this sport as it si beautiful but they should beware of the places they do this sport as if they do it in a dangerous place they can cause an accident or an unwanted problem. the skaters have the places to do their skating and so they should not cause poblems in other places and not cause accidents.

  7. Nice video Hugo! I really like this sport, i think it's very sad to know that people think this is a vandalism, I've suffered myself the way some adults look as if you were going to kill him,i just don't understand it.
If the people think it's illegal doing this, as my opinion, sport, why do they sell it? People have the rights to do this if he doesn't do any stupid acts.
In conclusion, this type of sports should be more rtecognised by people because the riders who sacrifiy themselves and does it very good should be payed more and very more socialy recognised.

  8. What a great video Hugo. I firstly wanted to say that although everyting in this video seems to be wonderful and fantastic, which it is, skaters in our city streets are not as good nor respectul as they are. The problem of having those skaters going down our roads is the fact that they show no respect to the cars or citizens. Another problem, is that they dont have as many skills as them so the probability of them having an accident is greater.

  9. It could only be Hugo. I as a long border think that it is obviously art. Every turn is like a new line in a picture. It’s amazing, going through the streets feeling the air blowing your hair. I disagree with marina and Paulina and most of the boys. Not only because I think that you can not write about something you have not done or feel about it’s because another things. One of them is doing skate yes there are places where they can practice, but there are downhill places?
If you don’t know the answer is no there are not these places. And going fast through the street it’s a dangerous thing to do yes that’s true but the amount of adrenalin you get its enormous and you feel good.
I have another question, would you like to be all your life doing ordinary things?
Maybe yes but not me. I like stream sports, where you can get injured, you can die but these are the consequences and the motivation you get and these are the ones that push you to do those things.
Maybe know you are thinking that I am mad or something but know a day in our daily lives more people practice these sports. And I hope it continues.
So I say IT IS DEFENETLY AN ART. You only need to try it you will never stop riding. I wish I could only live do stream sports but they are not very valuable. I wish people stop being the same generation after generation. With the same value, the same thoughts, stop looking only football, tennis and this sort of sports and giving the other ones have an opportunity to be famous.
My last question, without thinking in videos, thinking if you where the ones that are doing that sport or seeing it in real life, which sport will you prefer, football or a stream sport such as surf, longbording skiing ?
