War Generation

Few days ago Activision Company, has produced the second part of the world famous battle game: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.
This videogame has a great content of war images which can be very influential for young people, like shooting people, exploding ships or killing terrorists. Also this game imagines the idea of the third world war which is also very influencious.
Many scientists agree that this type of game can produce an aggressive behavior but separate studies denied it.
So what is your real opinion about this type of games?

  1. Firstly say that I’m one of those that play this game. But I have to agree that this game could cause aggressive behaviour in someone. There has been some of examples of people trying to copy this games for example: http://gplz.com/2008/08/gta4-causes-real-death/ this is a link that takes to a real case of how can war games affect reality!
Also what is true is that video games can be very prejudicial for a country and make them feel offended for example last year when they released to the market Call of Duty: Black Ops one of the mission caused lots of controversy between the company that created the game and Cuba. As in one of the mission you had to kill Fidel Castro you can imagine how many problems and discussion that caused.
Nowadays all the games that are released and the ones that take the top numbers of sales are the games of war and of shooting and violence. So why aren’t the companies going to make this games if those are the ones that make benefit. Because they don’t care of how the people are going to act to this game they just care of the money they going to make.

  2. I'm totally against such violent games. Firstly because it contains drug references which in my opinion it is not relevant for the objective of a game: have fun. In my opinion there is no need to add such strong language or a huge amount of gore to distract someone by playing a game. I would rather say that adolescents in this case could also play with what they consider a worthy game without it having to have these drastic aspects. If the creator of this game has wanted to make the player sense how the situation in the world war was, then he should’ve thought on another way of portraying the scenery. A part from that I would also like to point out that children now a days are becoming very warlike as it is not normal that they like to feel tough emotions as how to shoot someone and kill them. Therefore the game is very realistic as we can hear screams of pain and realistic gunfire. To end up with, I would like to say that I think that the government should censorship such games as too young children can become aggressive due to them.

  3. In my opinion, warlike videogames can be beneficial in the sense that it can make you increase your attention skills and your ability to react in a shorter period of time. However, it has been proved that people who play these games have a major tendency to violence and aggressiveness as they finally get used to watching sadistic scenes. These types of videogames are extremely popular in the field of leisure, as mostly teenagers take pleasure in killing people and exploding objects. Violence in videogames nowadays is essential for some people, so, in order to attract more public, videogame businesses have the obligation in some way to include scenes featuring violence if their main ambition is to prosper.
Although I understand that businesses want to attract people to buy their products, videogames shouldn’t be as violent as they are being created now, as people become so addicted and influenced by them that it is leading to an extreme.

  4. What a coincidence, I have just arrived home, guess what game I was playing? This game is the most amazing game made in the PlayStation by far. I am sorry but I have total opposed ideas to Nicole Pattge, this game does not contain any drug references nor bad language. It is true that the company wants the players to feel what is a war like, but maybe, it has an opposite side. I think people who play are much more aware of the dangers in a war, so probably they would never attend to a war, and in the case they did, they would have learned and experienced that reality so they will have more probabilities to get out there with life. I totally agree with Ana las Hayas comments because I think the habilities of a person will increase depending on the amounts of hours you play this fantastic game. What I would do, is put a minimum age which could be really followed by the consumers at about 14 years old (the time in which you really have a knowledge on what is happening) I would but this age barrior because I know some cases in which a 7 year old is better than half Bachillerato.

  5. I believe that war games such as this one have a great impact on young people. Furthermore, I think they influence on people quite a lot and quite negatively nowadays. Y say this because players of this game enjoy battling in an imaginary war, while they get tense and create a great amount of adrenaline when they think they are going to get killed, etc. This is not good, since enjoying the game and getting very involved in it can create addiction, because the player enjoys killing and escaping from specific situations. They enjoy feeling the tense atmosphere, the complicated situations in the game… and this is negative, since many of the players forget about their daily problems they may be suffering, making war and violence positive for them. And although it is very unlikely, I think that some players confuse reality with the game, and this could be dangerous in a way, since their behaviour may start to get based on the game and so may become aggressive.

  6. This game is just amazing, the images are soo realistic you think it's real! I consider myself a regular player in this type of videogames and I'm sorry but I do not agree with Nicole's opinion because I think this games is not as bad as people think.
People play this game because it's fun, I don't imagine an adolescent guy with a gun playing around because of the videogame.
Furthermore, I think this video game helps people to make new friends because you can interact with people from all around the world.
Finally, if an adolescent has a violent attitude I don't think the real problem is the game, it can be many problems around your environment.

  7. I do not like talking about this themes but I have to disagree. This games does not change people’s behaviour, only in a minority of people. Yes there have been cases were people have had a mental problem due to this sort of games.
Do you think other regular players, such as alvaro, and me have mental problems?

  8. To start with, I would like to make clear that I really like this game and I have played a lot and my opinion or behaviour towards war, drugs o violence is the same than before having played call of duty. I totally disagree with what has been just said about this game containing drug references or bad language because I am pretty sure that all the people that assure that have seen it very few times and as I have played for quite a long time I can assure it has no scenes of such themes. On the other hand I have to admit that it is a violent game but it has to be, as its main theme is war and fighting. I think that it is better to show war as how it is than to idealize it and make it surreal because people have to be aware of what’s happening all around the world.
