The big debate...

Well... is he?

  1. Countries should evolve, look into the future, and develop. And we, who make the country what it is, should be the ones, the visionaries, planning this future, with imagination and wisdom.
But this picture resembles a 1950's pamphlet which somehow survives in time; a dressed up woman bears a pie, of all things, separated from the group... of men.

  2. I really don't understand what's PP meaning to achieve with this advert, in my opinion they're just going to get criticised by people, they're not going to achieve anything positive of this.

If I were a woman I would be very disappointed with PP due to the image they are giving of the female sex.

I find this image kind of comical because with this advert PP are probably loosing adepts and so helping the opposite political party. Some parties advertise their candidatures by showing defects of the other parties but in this case, PSOE (the rival) didn’t need to do anything because the PP party did the entire dirty job against themselves without even noticing.

  3. I think that a change of government is a positive option now because we need fresh and new ideas to battle this economic recession that we've lived throughout this past years. But I don't know if he will be the excellent candidate, you never now if the politians are going to make true their promises or not. I hope and expect that this government change will cause a positive impact in our system, especially in the economy because Spain needs it desesperately.

  4. I agree with Pablo about the fact that countries should evolve and look into the future and I think this image gives us the wrong idea. I also agree with Jaume’s that we don’t really understand what the meaning of this message and finally with Alvaro because a change of government will defiantly be a positive thing for the country.
A change is desperately needed but as the questions asks us, is he the one responsible to lead us and guide us in the future? I have lots of doubts about that. Right now there is no one who is ready and prepared to take us out of this crisis but surely there are ones who probably will do it better than others. However referring back to the image, for me the heading does not match the image, because as Pablo said, we should be evolving and developing and this image doesn’t evoke innovation because even thought Mariano Rajoy hasn’t been ruling he has been in the media the same years as Zapataro, so actually he is “not new” to us.
So I consider that this image isn’t properly described and maybe the newspaper should have thought of a better heading, not necessarily negative, but a different one.

  5. I totally agree with Pablo and Jaume and would like to add that what this picture suggests about the future is totally unacceptable to have for someone like Rajoy which will probably be the next president of Spain.

As Pablo said it makes us think about a past were only a few people had power and lived well.
It is sexist beyond all doubts and it doesn't reflect the Spanish society at all. It looks to me like a clothes advertisement more than the serious political campaign that they should have in the middle of a worldwide crisis that has been caused because by an assemblage of errors for many years and by a series of decisions that have been taken with out thinking about the consequences as if they rolled a dice.

In one hand I particularly liked what Jaume said about this being counterproductive but in the other one I wonder if this trully is what people want.

I personally find it offensive, terrifying and a shame for them and I believe it tells a lot about the kind of changes they want to introduce to our country.

It looks as if they have come to a point were they seem so desperate to convince people about them leading Spain out of this economical crisis by collaborating and giving benefit to business men and have forgotten that there is more people living in this country and more aspects to deal with and that this other people, which might not seem so important to them, might also want to be part of this future and not be excluded or ignored.

Alvaro and Maria talked about change so is this the change we all want for the future and what prize are we prepared to assume?

  6. I agree with this message as we all have seen during 8 years the government of psoe and we are as we are just now. i underestand that it is not all the problem of psoe because it is the same in all of europe but i think that with the help now of the pp the country is going to start to grow as other countries and not stay back at the tail of eurpoe as italy or greece.

  7. I agree with both Ignacio Criado and Paula Navarro because both of them have given different but true points of view .
I personally think that having PP as the next governement is not a bad idea because it's true that we need a change and that maybe new ideas will be brought in order to improve this economic crisis in which we are right now. Nevertheless I would also say that I do not agree with some of the ideas that PP have ( which don't have to do with the economy) such as permiting once again smoking in closed areas. Why on earth this is good? Many people smoke and I don't care about what each one wants to do but not because of them everyone has to be affected! Nearly all the european countries and USA have forbidden this smoking law and now that we had it they are revalidating it!
Apart from that I deffinitely don't like this advert mainly because it seems to be a film advert and secondly because it's clearly sexist. There is only one woman and she's holding a cake...Is this trying to say that women are meant to cook? There are lots of other ways to advertise PP and this would rather decrease their credibility than imporving it.
Lastly I would like to answer to the question " Well...is he?" I'm not sure about this, maybe Rajoy is not the best person and I'm not saying that Zapatero is better, in fact what I'M saying is that it seems as if all the political parties are the same.Non of them tell the truth or have the capacity to change the actual situation of Spain because who really takes decisions nowadays are the richest countries and the financial system. Lets see what happen!

  8. I totally disagree with the majority of your ideas, except for the fact that the only woman in the picture is casually represented with a cake, which in my opinion is a BIG mistake in spite of being a business woman in the world of bakery. However, it is important to point out that this is NOT an advert for PP’s campaign; it is a newspaper’s front page.

On the other hand, our major concern should be the economic politics each party want to apply, instead of social politics such as tobacco laws. If the unemployment rate keeps increasing in a similar rate, Spain will need amounts of money, in order to come back to life, which won’t be assumed by neither the ECB nor the IMF and there will not be any social politics to talk about since we would be, simply, stamped onto the floor.

Despite, I would also wanted to point out that Rajoy insinuated he would change the tobacco law in order to allow smoking in SOME bars arguing that lots of bar owners did spend lots of money in repairs at the time and now it’s as if they’ve thrown the money. However, I think this is a step back into a contemporary society.

Of course the political parties HAVE the capacity to change, we have to believe in them, otherwise what would be the point in voting? Moreover, we are in a capitalist society and therefore to create richness it is very important to boost the enterprising spirit.

Nobody is excluded in this future; it is a matter of increasing employment offers.
Moreover, of course there’s a price to pay, there are going to be reductions, but in my opinion they are necessary, we need money to reinvest in generating employment to make the economic cycle keep spinning. How did USA get out of the crisis in 1929? Their idea was to generate employment, because employment generates richness which seems to be something PSOE tried to achieve too at first but now are against it, ironic isn’t it? PSOE is no more a valid alternative, not after this last 8 years dominated by disorganised politics with any sense or reason.

There’s a major issue. This front page talks about one of the main ideas Rajoy will try to implement which theoretically is a very good idea where the rate of unemployment, the major concern of our society, will decrease. However, what we should really be debating is: How are they going to do so? Are they really able to do so? The thing is that PP isn’t being specific and this is actually creating a higher insecurity in the global market, as the Financial Times pointed out last Thursday.

Time is the biggest judge, and since Mariano Rajoy is going to become the new president, only time will tell us if we did right or bad to elect him; and I presume we will know quicker than we might expect.
