Bethany Hamilton is a true example of overcoming.
This young inspirational girl promised herself to not give up her surfer career for anything in the world.
When she was 13 years old , this young surfer, suffered a shark attack while she was surfing, causing her a fateful disgrace, the loss of the left arm.
However her desire, determination and spirit granted her the opportunity to follow her dream, surfing.

Oh Hugo, it's amazing! It must be very difficult for her as with only one arm you don't have the same balance as with two and balance is very important in surf. It must have been hard for her at the beginning as she must have had a hard time getting used to only one arm. It is a clear example of purchasing your dream and having a clear objective. I really admire these kind of people and I wish the best for them. I hope she continues in this line as this is what takes you to be someone important in life and to have success doing something you like.

I really don’t know what to say, this has shocked me a lot. You have to like A LOT surfing so that even if losing an arm because of a shark bite you stand up and try again. What’s more you have to put double effort in every wave you try to surf and every time she paddles, its difficult with two arms imagine with only one!
ReplyDeleteI think this girl deserves an award, really, it’s the story that has impacted me most this year, and what’s more, this will probably help the people with just 1 arm to try and accomplish their dreams!
Think about it, there are a lot of people who just by skiing they break a leg or an arm and they are scared of doing it again, so they avoid doing this sport, and now imagine if it’s because a shark! Sorry for the expression but this girl has balls.

ReplyDeleteThe amazing thing about this girl is her dedication and single-mindedness; bascially her will-power. As you said, she must have had to work twice as hard to reach or meet her goal of being (and staying) professional.
And despite all the problems she must have had to overcome, she is now fulfilling her dream of surfing for a living!
It is remarkable what you can achieve once you set your sights on something and let yourself be guided by your heart, rather than (only) your head.
O that’s amazing. 2 years ago i was in California, in a surf competition. As you all know she is a professional surfer, i was so fortunate that I mange to talk with her. And I only had one question, “have you had any problems after the shark attack in such a sport?” she respond me as all fathers do. If you know is the thing you love, the thing that you are living for, is the only thing in the world that make her continue as a normal girl. So she said if you like something don’t let anything interpose in the way.
ReplyDeleteI saw her surf and she had such a smile as the other ones that I was amazed that this girl have achieve all this. And she give me her cap and said that I could never let thing because there are difficult, to achieve difficult thing you have to work hard.
I ask a friend of her, that as well surf in the championship, what do she think about Bethany, she said that she was as a normal girl, nobody treats her different she prefer to be one more without having help.
It’s just incredible, I have met her and I will never forget that moment.
The only possible defintion for this has only one simple word: ADMIRABLE. Without a doubt, this is one of the most incredible story that I've recently heard. The fact of having the courage to go into the sea again and continue with your dream in mind is absolutely worth looking up to. I can't imagine the difficulties through which this girl must have come across and has had to put up with in order to fulfill her goal: get to be a pro surfer and be recognised throughout this group. In fact, her disgraceful story has helped her in this, as well as her sense of self overcoming.
ReplyDeleteClearly, this girl is the perfect example of self overcoming, remarking that no matter what your objective in life is and no matter what you have to come across, if you are really looking up to it, you can make it.
This issue is also a matter of effort, beacuse such things don't come to you, in order to achieve difficult thing you have to work hard, and Bethany Hamilton has clearly given a lesson to those who give up to their goals.
It is also very admirable the fact of going over and forget that a shark, yes, a WILD shark's mouth reached your arm and literally ripped it off from your body, so this girl has surpassed a more than probable trauma. Finally, I really liked it when she said that she went surfing just three weeks after the attack! The normal thing, I think, would be to have a profound thought of wether try again or not, but this girl had everything clear since the exact moment she entered this new lifestyle: anything wouls impede achieving her goal, SURFING.
As Francis Ford Coppola said "It was the man's dream, and his inspiring attempt to make them come true that remain important." I think the video and this quote have a direct link between them because what they are trying to say is that no matter what's youre objective in life, with hard work, all of youre dreams can become true. People who have passed throughout difficult stages in their lives are the ones who really reach their dreams because they have a different perspective of life than we have. All of those stories which impact the viewer have a gret message inside of having a posive self-esteem, self-confidende and never, of course, letting themselves down what so ever. This only happens to those people because they way life has rewarded them by living so they want to return the favour or live their lifes at a 100% because they already know that their death is closer than they had imagined. In this video, death was very close to the young surfer, so, thats the reason why she wants to live her life in search of her dream, which is basically SURF.
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed with this video, and I admire a lot this girl who has continued his normal life and is favourite sport despite having lost her arm because of a shark attack. To start with, I think that this girl deserves whatever she wants, I don’t want to imagine how hard must be to be attacked by a shark and to lose an arm, and still continue doing the things you love as if nothing has happened. I am also very impressed for the way she loves surfing, because she still surfs despite losing an arm, which is an incredible prove of her love towards this sport.
