Well I'm Hector Marlet and this is my first post! hehe
Today I've just come across a video I had saved on my favourites list on the internet. Its about 3 or 4 children, about our age or possibly younger, who once decided to start a business selling clothes (just like Alfredo Saenger). They created this video to promote ther new brand.
I was fascinated 2 / 3 years ago when I saw this . You must have a look at it -  its worth it!!!!

BEFORE LOOP EDIT 2! from Sigurd Neby on Vimeo.

What i would like to debate is the following:
  • Do you really think this is a good / appropiate way to promote you clothing brand?
  • Do you think extreme sports are going over their limits?
  • How do you see the future in this kind of extreme sports looking at this video? (this was made 2 or 3 years ago by 15-17 year old boys)!!! What's next?

  1. In my opinion, it's a fantastic way of trying to promote a brand. Nowadays, the video is a very powerful way to show things, as you can mix images, videos and music that make it really entertaining. What's more, for our generation editting videos is no longer a challenge, and through internet we can send it to everyone.

It is amazing how these teenagers came up with the idea of creating a brand whilst they were so young, but what would they be waiting for anyway? It could be a success then or later, or turn out to be a fraud. It was obviously worth doing it, as we are talking about them and their brand right NOW!

  2. Firstly I would like to congratulate Hector for his first post, because I find it intresting.

Well in my opinion this is an appropiate way of your clothe brand. Fistly because I find it very enjoyfull and also because everybody is free to do publicity as they like, but without insulting others. As I said the way they promote there brand is okay but in my opinion I find it a bit exagerated to promote a clothing brand.

I think that extreme sports are going off the limits because I find them to dangerous and exagerated. This extreme sports if you don't practise them with a lot of precaution they can end killing. For example I don't know if it was last week or two weeks ago, I don't know where I read it that a young man of 20 years old killed himself doing "puenting" because he didn't have the adequate protection. So I think that extreme sports are going past the limits.

Well I find extraordinary that teenagres can create there proper clothing brand. To the future this can be a succes and an improvement.

I've just seen this video, and honestly, i'm not very impressed, mainly because it's a 3 minute long video, and it's main argument are a pair of guys jumping and preforming tricks, on an elastic mat, just to advertise a cloths brand, in my opinion, it's a bit lame. I would have preferred, a normal add, where they actually sold the cloths, but anyway if they managed to sell, good for them.

In my opinion extreme sports are going out of the limits, but there is a problem, and that problem is, that extreme sports are thought to go far beyond the limits, mainly because they are thought to give a boost of adrenaline to the one that preforms them, and to give that boost, they have to involve risk. One good example of this is parachuting, if we think about it, parachuting is kind of stupid, mainly because you get in a plane, and you jump out of that plane at 5000 feet just to get some adrenaline running down your veins, it is much safer to go to a hospital, and get a shot of adrenaline, it's the same sensation. Another good example is Diving, why do you want to dive to 80 meters, just to see the bottom of the see for 3 seconds and spend 2 whole hours of decompression, if you think it through, it's just stupid. But we like it, we like the risks, so because of that we preform them.

I think, that in 20 years, there will be the same extreme sports, but with different techniques, mainly because there is nothing "crazier", than literarily throwing yourself out of a plane, or jumping 15 meters with a snowboard.

  4. i disagree with you suri because if your brand is known for simple advertisment nobody will remember it you need to look for something that drags people´s attention, this video take for example will be remembered by viewers when they see the brand in stores they will associate this brand to these jumping kids if you can call them that way.
on the other hand it is very poor video in length as it only lasts 3 minutes and a little bit so much more effort has to be made by these kids to try and make their brand successful.

in any place in the world a brand can be made if you have the resources or the necessary contacts to launch the product with success. if your brand makes it congratulations and good luck with further sells.

In social group which we are, a wealthy group we could afford doing these things but if you aren´t successful it doesn´t matter you will continue with your normal life. WE as people living in this society will have to look at this brand because maybe it will become very famous eventhough we thought it wouldn´t work.
Powerful brands such as Nike or Addidas or other market sharing companies will have to look for these emerging successful and maybe i don´t know make it part of their company one day making a lot of money.

  5. Hello. First of all I would like to say that I found this video really interesting indeed. The way they jumped and also their natural style they where adopting whilst they were being filmed. It seemed that the boys were having fun out there!!!

I think it’s a really good way to promote your clothing brand because when they start jumping we can appreciate the elegancy of that t-shirts moving in all directions.

On the other hand, I think a little problem we can observe, is that we can’t appreciate the brand in the clothes there should be a moment in which the camera approaches the children’s clothes to take a fore of the brand so the consumer can see the brand and to catch his attention.

Referring to extreme sports nowadays, we can see that there are different points of view and it’s difficult to accurately talk of them by saying if they are in their limits.

In my opinion I would say that some extreme sports have already reached their limits but in other cases we can’t say the same there’s always a form to make a sport more extreme.

Personally I practice an extreme sport, which in this case is downhill. It consist in having a downhill bike that are specially modified for this sport and afterwards you go with your bike rushing down a hill and I think that this particularly extreme sport hasn’t got no limits.

In my point of view the future of extreme sports is safe in the way that they are becoming more popularly claimed but I think the next step in this sort of video are going to be more spectacular with more action and of course trying to get to the extreme!!

  6. I really agree with you Maxi . I mean , for me its remembering this video that will make people buy something of their brand . You must know that what this kids are doing , its not as simple and easy as it looks. Try to search any video on the internet where people are bouncing on this trampolines , can you see anyobody making tricks even harder or with more style that this guys.... ? hmm you probably wont (and they are only 14 year old...)

On the other hand , Dani you are right when you say that they could actually try and show a bit more the type of clothing they are promoting , eventhouh its obvious its going to be XXXXXXXXXL

  7. In my opinion this is a wonderful way of promoting something such as a new brand. Even though these two guys are only teenagers, it is good in all aspects that they try to start something new and therefore, show everyone their passion and their abbilities.

Most importantly, the way they have edited the video is impressive! Instead of creating something which shows an exclusively attitude, they have produced something which shows what they like doing in their free time and somehow, their day to day personal challenges. Through this, they transmit a good image of the clothes essence and what they want to express through them.

because of the way the video is done and what it shows, it is obvious for anyone who watchs it the type of clothing that this brand is going to offer. This could be a negative aspect in other cases as it could limit the consumer target too much, which is never good, especially with a brand which is trying to be launched into the market. However, the young, intense and natural way in which the video is done, makes people like Hector (who like these type of clothing) feel interested in it.

Lastly, deciding to promote this via internet is the best way of doing these things nowadays. It can quickly move from one person to another until it reaches an uncountable number of people. Especially in this specific activity (XXXXL clothing, skaters..), it is very normal for adolescents who like this to share what they find with their friends.

  8. Thanks for your first post Hector. I really found it very interesting as I am creating a new brand called ARTIK (I also am useful to publicize my brand.. jaja) with a bunch o friends and I could get off some ideas from it.

First of all I must congratulate them as I found that they have achieved their commercial purpose with the video. It is really powerful video, full of images and song, which gives out the right idea f the brand. It is also transmitted with the video the concept of a brand exclusively design for adolescents with passion for extreme sports. Making reference to Suri, i the video was too long it wouldn't achieve its propose, as you must not forget its intention is to publicize the brand. People lose interest if it is too long, and you must maintain the mystery.

I also think (about extreme sport) that they have to fight against their personal limits, as its name suggest. Further more it is what people expect to see when they assist to a extreme sport’s tournament. If they didn’t go against their limits they could no longer be named like that. It is a whole way of life.

I can’t imagine ere this “extreme” sports will arrived in the next years, but of what I'm really shore is that I will be there to see it. Despite this, I really think that there are no limits, we can go as far as we want. Extreme sport will never die, because as they say out there, “after you break a barrier, there is always another...”.

  9. I guess you could say that this ad shows where fasion is heading: away from catwalks and glossy magazines, towards more personalised clothing, created within communities of like-minded people who share a similar lifestyle, etc. I guess that means that if you want to sell today, you need to tap into this community through viral marketing, social networks and events (like a skateboarding competition), rather than by traditional advertising. I don't know if anyone agrees or disagrees or has examples of this happening...?

  10. I think the video is pretty awesome. I am rather impressed to see fifteen year olds jumping this high and doing dangerous and probably hard to learn tricks such as 360 flips. (I think that's what they're called haha)

As for the way of promoting their clothing brand, i don't consider it was the best idea as, having watched the video i don't know anything about the brand. I am a bit confused as if they're even trying to sell or advertise anything. In my most random guess i would say that they might be selling their t-shirts in which case i don't think the video was very successful. The huge sizes of both of their shirts make them look uncomfortable to practice both jumps and longboarding. I don't understand how the boy in the white shirt doesn't get his knees trapped.

However, if we analyse the situation and the fact that these boys won't probably want to spend any money on promoting their clothing brand, as it might be a failure, i would have to agree that doing a video would be a good idea for advertising.

Referring to the question about 'extreme sports going over the limits' i do not agree. Yes, i would have to admit that from what i've seen, i think that some people are taking their hobbies over the top but in general, extreme sports aren't. They all have safety gear and places where each sport can be practiced, even monitored if necessary, for which i don't think they're exceeding their limits. Plus, how could they be going too far when their name already points out that they're supposed to be extreme?!

Anyway, i enjoy watching people practice these sports and i expect and would like them to continue widening and getting more and more dangerous. After all, that's probably the whole point of them, feeling the adrenaline rush from the fear of crashing or achieving what you once thought or someone told you was impossible.
