Studying abroad

Nowadays, studying abroad is getting more and more common for young people.  Every day we are a bit nearer to the day when we have to go to university, and leaving or not is an important decision to make. Our families and us, take the decision to leave home and go to another country where we know no one and nothing about it. It is a decision which some people might find it scary because it means leaving everything you know and going to an adventure which you don’t know what will happen.

But, leaving this apart, I personally think that it is something that enriches you in many ways, such as, you get to know different people with different cultures which it is very productive because it makes you see thing beyond what you´ve been seeing all this time. You get to be more mature because you have to do everything for yourself without the hep of your parents.

Moreover, looking at the academic part, it is also a positive thing to do because you get to learn new things that maybe in your country they do them differently and you´d never had know. And of course, you learn and practice daily a new language.
In my opinion, it´s an experience that anyone who can, should do.

What is your opinion about this? Would you go to study abroad?

  1. I strongly agree with Ana as I think that going to study abroad is really a good idea. It helps you to see the reality as it is because when you're in your home, your parents use to help you when you have to make a decision, they also suppport you always...So this is a way of learning to be independent and have more autonomy when is time to make decisions. I also think that it helps you to be more outgoing and social so in the future when going to do interviews or speaking in public is better. What's more, I think is the best way of learning or improve another language because you have to use it in your daily routine. In addition, from an academic view, is an experience that you can add to your C.V and that helps you in a job because it gives a good image of someone responsible that is able to manage themselves. Finally as a personal experience you learn different cultures, you travel and you see more world which is always a positive thing to do as your thoughts about somethings might change. So to conclude, I think that is a very good idea because I can only think about positive aspects both for your personal experience and for your academic life.

  2. Studying abroad is becoming more common around the world because it is not only an extremely fun experience, but it is also excellent to develop new skills, have multiple opportunities and get to know a whole different world. I believe living in another country can provide new values, teach new cultures, and make a person have an independent life and a stronger personality.

Firstly, studying in another country gives you the opportunity to learn a new language by being part of their culture. Listening to a different language on a daily basis is without doubt the best way to learn and make friends of other parts of the world. Making new friends can make you learn about other ways of living and opening your mind to different points of view. This way, people can get to have more opportunities to work and generate a family abroad by having the elements previously provided.

This experience can also make you learn about other cultures by travelling more, and getting to know new places never seen before. This makes people be more intelligent and have another image of the world that they actually didn’t know before. Also, people learn more about themselves because by learning so many new ideas, they return home knowing who they really are and who they want to be, with new goals set to reach.

In conclusion, studying abroad makes people become extremely independent and ready to have a new and mature life. It breaks the routine of living in the same place, with the same people and doing the same things every day, to a world with wonderful things to come forward. It also develops academic skills and expands your worldview, becoming a completely new person.

  3. I strongly agree with Ana, Emilia and Gemma about the positive aspects of studying abroad and with the fact that it is becoming much more common amongst young students nowadays.

Studying abroad provides you with an exhilarating sense of independence and autonomy that is not commonplace in parent’s houses. You find yourself alone in a completely new country and undoubtedly you will have to make a living of your own. Not only you will have to learn and adapt to a different culture, but you will have to deal with daily tasks such as cooking, washing and cleaning for yourself. Personally, I find this very positive as it enhances your ability to manage things on your own.

Furthermore, you widen your span of possible relationships at the same time as you are constantly receiving inputs from a diversity of cultures. Academically speaking, you will have to deal with new subjects in a language that is not your mother tongue this meaning that you will be thinking in a new language, which is very impressive and of utter importance too.

Answering to your question Ana, I see no downsides to studying abroad and wish I could have the opportunity myself.
