A Hero!!!

I couldn’t believe it when I first saw it. A woman faint in the train station and just fell down on the train tracks. A police that was there in that moment, when the train was arriving, went down the train tracks and rescued the women. He is a really authentically hero!!!

He wasn’t in his labour time, but he still jumped in to the train track and rescued the women.  Lots of people were around of the tragedy looking. But none of them had the value and power to get down and resolve the situation. Just him. The train was arriving and the woman was just in the middle of the track. The police didn’t think it twice. He went stratify to save the woman, going just in front of the train. He could apart the woman who was still faint and put her in a safer place.
All the other people didn’t do anything, only the police was brave enough to do it. Not only this time. He had already safe a baby this summer when the baby felt on a profound river. He jumped to the river and rescued the baby that had fallen. He is a hero.
In that extreme situation:
What would you do?
Would you jump to the train track?
Would you risk your life as the police did?

  1. First of all, I would like to say that I agree with Marc in the point of thinking this man is a hero and was really brave to rescue that woman. She was really lucky to have someone that didn’t even know her and put his life in danger in order to rescue her.
As a matter of fact, I would like to contrast this situation with a similar one that I read in the newspaper some months ago: A 26 year’s old woman was kidnapped in a metro station and there were witnesses that saw what was happening and didn’t do anything, anyone was brave enough to help her. When I read this article, I was shocked: How can people see that someone is being morally or physically hurt and watch it without doing anything? I am not considered specially a brave person or someone that is constantly helping people, but I think if I was involved in a situation like that, I would try to help the person that was in danger and do everything in my hands to try and rescue him or her. In the other hand, we also need to be realistic, and if we arrived and consider it’s too late to act, it would be better not to get involved because there would be a short percentage to avoid the problem, and the hurt would be already done.
To sum up I believe in karma so, in my opinion, people that help others in a difficult situation will, in a future, be rewarded in life.

  2. The police had great courage to do this. I really support the idea of giving him an award for his action.

Many people say that a lot of people would have done it but as far as I'm concerned anyone that was on the train station didn't have the bravery to jump to the train tracks. I think that not many people would risk their lives to save other one's and even less of someone you don't know.
What's more I thinks it's something that it passes in so many little time that is like instictive, i mean, if you are the type of person that would do this you'll do it without thinking.

The most unbelievable fact is that is the second time he has saved the life of someone and this really deserves a respect. This really shows that is a very good person, not selfish and from my point of view everybody should be like this.

It is very easy to say that I would have done it but truth is I don't know how I would have reacted because I've never been in this situation. I think that I would have jumped to at least move the women from there, there are 2 tracks so I would try to move her and with some help, pull her up. Sincerely if both trains were coming meaning I didn't have escape I would have think the idea much more, probably although I would like to help her I wouldn't have had the courage to jump.
But also truth is that I wouldn't stand to see a person about to die and didn't do anything to safe her.

So in conclusion I think that after analysing the situation I think that as Marc said he is really a hero and he deserves to be recognised by his courage.

  3. First of all, allow me to say that I read about this last week and it made me think a lot about individuals’ courage. I certainly agree with Marc, Gemma and Elena as I would also consider this policeman a hero.

Certainly, a large amount of people admit that they would have jumped onto the railway tracks in order to save the lady’s life. We are deceived when we read about such incidents happening and no one actually taking the risk. We could actually learn a lot about human’s behaviour from this. The fact that the policemen was not serving to the community at the moment makes him an individual like many others. This shows that courage, and maybe physical strength, is something you develop personally. What particulary strikes me is that the man put his life in danger for someone that was unknown to him which shows that social responsibility and even courtesy still can be found. Moreover, I would like to outline the fact that maybe the problem relies on selfishness or a lack of empathy of the whole population.

The obvious conclusion that can be drawn from these facts is that we are made to react according to our instinct and that if we can avoid risking our lives we will do so; which sadly, as we have read, is what really happens.

  4. In my opinion what the police officer did was the perfect example of an act of courage, especially considering the fact that he was not on duty and therefore saving the woman’s life wasn’t his “obligation”. I think it requires a lot of bravery and determination to jump onto the tracks and save a person and it is not something everybody would do.

If I had been in the metro station when the woman fainted I know I would have definitely not jumped, since I don’t have the courage or the bravery to do so. And I’m almost completely sure that the people who were there felt that way. As you’re able to see in the security video, the people who were present when she fell seem concerned and worried, but none of them really know how to handle the situation or feel capable of jumping and saving her life. On the other hand, we can see how they helped the policeman when he was trying to put the woman back on the ground, which shows how the people actually cared about her, and weren’t just standing and looking at the almost tragic situation.

Like Marc says in the title of this post, the policeman truly is a hero. He risked his life twice in order to save other people, and I completely agree with Marina about supporting the idea of giving him an award for his heroic action.
