Man dies trying to cross a river hanging by his hair

Nath Roy has died today of a heart attack while trying to cross the river Teesta (India) hanging by with nothing but his hair when he was trying to beat his own Guinness record who got the past 2011.
He was trying to cross the river with a rope slide of 600 meters long and 20 meters tall. People who were watching the event say that he stopped moving when he passed 300 meters. He was screaming and trying to stop while he moved 30 meters and then stopped moving.
It´s not the first time Roy did things like this, in 2008 he dragged a train waggon using only his ponytail; and on 2007 he crossed from a building to another attached only to his hair.

Do you thinks brutal things like these should be prohibited?

  1. First of all, I think that the Guinness World Records are impressive records which are well recognised by the people. You can see three types of records , the first one are people that are already talented and have some special thing in their body that makes them different. The second one is people that have the idea of beating a record and so they train for it to achieve it. We can observe “Ashrita Furman” which is a man that has been beating records for a lot of years. He looked up in every edition of the Guinness and he tried to beat someone or create a new record, he achived it always with a big effort. The third one are people that don't have the ability to do things as the first group has but they try to. I personally think this is the case of “Nath roy” that couldn't beat the record only with the measure of his hair and so he tried to do something new. In this case is something you can't train because you are relying on something of your body and it is not a matter of training. So this types of things which are dangerous, cause everybody knows that hair is not as a metal string, should not exist.

From my point of view people shouldn't do this things. I can understand that if he has already win the Guinness Eecord he wants to beat himself before any other can do it. But sometimes you have to stop and think about what you are about to do and don't let you influenciate by the other people. In this case he was relying on his hair, as I said before, and this is quite dangerous because it doesn't give you any security. What's more, as it happened, he had a heart attack and he was there in the middle of a river with any help or any medical support before doing this and while doing it. People are only looking for entertainment and so they don't really care about the consequences as is not they're problem, that's the reason why they influence a person like Nath to do this. On the other hand the Guinness Records shouldn't accept this types of records as they are dangerous and can cause problems. However, they can't do anything because people will try it in case that is recognised.

So to conclude I find that the Guinness Records is something to entertain you and to have fun seeing how people get crazy doing things o how they are able to overcome things and this can't make people die because of ambition to appear in the Guiness Records. So someone should take control over the situation, which records should be accepted and which them no. This would prevent people training and trying things that can drive them to death or huge injuries.

  2. It’s amazing, I can’t imagine how people can do these type of things. As Gemma argued, there are types and types of records. Some records, like for example this one, are records that only risk your life. It’s not worth doing these only to appear in the Record Guinness. Yes, absolute yes I think it’s brutal and flabbergasting, but also disappointing. How can he did it with any type of previsions in case it happened what it happened.
I really think records like that should be removed. Because it has gone beyond the line. Some records are funny, interesting and really amazing; but other records don’t have fun at all. He has died to try and beat his own record, how this is possible.
I strongly want to remark that there has to be a limit line in order to remove this type of situations. As Gemma explained before, if it wasn’t a record, people wouldn’t do it.

  3. This article perfectly suits my attitude towards making the most of your capabilities. I believe everyone has that single virtue that has to be exploited and found out. In this particular case, Mr. Roy has made the most of his capillary aptitudes which, ladies and gentleman, not everyone can presume of (don´t take it personal).
As a drawback, he has taken the risk of dying. Having had many other similar achievements, 34-year-old Nath Roy, highlights the importance of standing out in something you are capable of. Some of us are good at maths, some other are extraordinary in painting…Mr. Roy proves us all that every single capability is equal in comparison with any other. Above all, how many mathematicians, scientists or writers can presume of being inside of a book that sums up such quality and achievements.
About what legality is concerned, I think that as the facility is public these acts should not become a reality in those places. The key argument of my posture is that some people might find scary his acts. I understand people who think that it is entertaining and pumps up everyone if it wasn’t for the fact that this can go wrong. The result of this going wrong can be translated to a life-long trauma for many children and why not, adults.

  4. Since ancient Rome we’ve had this sort of games organised in order to keep masses of people distracted as, as results have shown, they seem to only be distracted by macabre games. This isn’t quite a perfect example of this sort of games, but indeed it isn’t something many people have the courage to do as it implies a high level of danger.

Adding on to Jordi's comment, in which I agree in its totality, say that bearing in mind the danger he went through, leaving a part if it should be allowed or not, some sort of support as doctors, police or even firemen should be provided in case of misfortune. But, Nath Roy seemed not to care a single bit about it as he could only think of being the best in what he did, courage that many of us should envy. He is a clear example of not only courage, but particularity, as, mentioned before, not everyone can outstand in capillary means.

Answering to Ana’s question if this should be or not allowed, my answer is ‘why not?’. Why should a ‘how much can I resist under water’ or a ‘how many milk can I spill through my nose’ record be allowed and not this one? Any of those has its dangerous issues, as it wouldn’t be a Guinness World Record if it wasn’t something particular which few could do. If you believe in it, go for it. He knew he was good at this, particular if I'm allowed to say, and performed what he knew to do until his last moment.

As Theodore Roosevelt once said 'Believe you can and you're halfway there´.

  5. In my opinion, doing something as risky as what this man did just to capture people’s attention to obtain a world record was something ridiculous as well as immature. I think that there’s no reason to do something as dangerous as that since it could result in a terrible accident, or even worse - like in Nath Roy’s case - in death.

People nowadays, will do anything to become famous, and in some cases - like this one, they go beyond the limit. I think that things like this should be banned in order to avoid accidents; i also think that they promote irresponsible behaviour within society, especially amongst the younger members of such.

Furthermore, i think that the people in charge of the Guinness World records should take this into account and only allow people to try to achieve records which are more serious, unlike this one (and many others) which are mainly dangerous and ridiculous.
