Accident? I don’t think so.

Oscar Pistorius, 26, one of the most famous athletes of South Africa, made history in the Olympic Games in London last year, when he became the first double amputee runner to compete in track during the Olympics.
The Paralympics sprinter was accused of shooting the model Reeva Steenkamp, his wife, several times leading to her death. This tragic event took place in South Africa, February 14th.

He was the only suspect for the murder, as there had been previous incidents in the house. He was being tested for blood alcohol and forensic examinations. Officers found a 9 mm handgun at the scene and arrested Pistorius, known as "Blade Runner". The spokeswoman added that the sprinter would seek bail, but police will oppose that request.

Moreover, Pistorius declared it was an accident, that he had confused her with a thief. Is that possible, to confuse your wife with a thief?

Before the shooting, Pistorius said on Twitter that he was excited about the imminence of the Day of Love and Friendship. Was this a way of covering up his intentions? Or did he kill his wife in a fit of rage and anxiety? Did he ever love her, or was it just a cover?

  1. The South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius has been accused of killing his girlfriend, the model Reeva Steenkamp.
A gun was found in Oscar’s side of the bed. It was thought Steenkamp moved to the bathroom and was shot through the closed door. Pistorius picked her up and carried her downstairs. He called a family member but not the police, who were called by neighbors. Some sources support the theory that Pistorius mistook her for a burglar.
A close friend of Pistorius told how the athlete phoned him moments after Steenkamp was shot. "Oscar called me at 3.55am saying that Reeva had been shot," Justin Divaris told. "I said to him: 'What are you talking about? I don't understand you.' He then repeated himself: 'There has been a terrible accident, I shot Reeva.'
There are lots of theories about the death of Reeva, but all of them make Pistorius seem the murderer. He was the only person that was in the house at that time, and it is said that he was really jealous, so this influences a lot for a person to act in a violent way is he discovers his girlfriend has relationships, not necessarily sexual relationships, with men.
There’s no point at judging a man about such a terrible thing as having killed someone until it is demonstrated. Despite this, lots of sources agree at the point of him being the murdered, as lots of suspicious proves point to him being the responsible of such a terrible incident.

  2. Like Elena mentioned, it is true that you can’t judge a person without being 100% sure if it was them who committed a crime, especially one which is as serious as murder is. But Oscar Pistorius seems to have a great deal of evidence against him.

In my opinion, the alibi of being at home and confusing his wife with a thief is almost unbelievable. Also, the fact that he shot her several times before she actually died reinforces this. I think that he should have been able to recognize his wife’s voice when screaming the first time he shot her, and that should have been enough to make him realize who it was that he was actually shooting. On the other hand the fact that he rung his friend and told him about the shooting gives us the impression that he might have actually done it by mistake.

Despite this, the fact that there had been previous incidents and that he owned the 9mm gun and the possibly ironic twitter message make the theory of him murdering his wife on purpose much more believable than the ones that suggest that it was an accident or that he wasn’t the murderer.

  3. I agree with both comments above. I would like to say that I support the idea of him being the murderer, there is no doubt about it since there has been found an 9mm handgun in the crime scene.

But in the other hand, I'd say that he did not know who was he shooting at since her wife was allready dead. Like Marina mentioned, it is true that he should have noticed it was her wife, but despite this, I think that when you are shooting someone, you start feeling the adrenaline and the only thing that crosses your mind is to keep shooting because you never know when it can actually be a thief.

In conclusion, I think he killed her wife without knowing who was he actually killing, because yes, you can confuse anyone with a thief if we take a closer look to the situation.

  4. All comments from above are correct as something which has a lack of evidence hasn’t got a concrete answer; it’s all based in individual opinions.

Focusing this new from my personal point of view, I can extract some evidence but, again, not a final answer for what happened. Apparently, Oscar Pistorius shot his wife repeatedly leading to her death defending himself saying that he thought she was a thief. Answering to your first question about the possibility of confusion, I personally think there’s one chance between one hundred of this happening. Would you confuse someone who actually lives with you day to day? I don’t think so. As Marina well spotted, there’s no logic in continue shooting if she reacts screaming or something, so having Pistorius shooting more than once has no logic.

Referring to your other question about his twit, I can’t judge if it was a way of covering what he was about to do or just a lovely way to express his love. My thoughts, though, having joined all evidence, push me to think that it was intended. Why? Well, this is obviously my own opinion, but, why should he have a gun? Or why should he make that twit, as, if he was so in love with her, why had there been some previous incidents in their house? It could be both, or an act of love and mercy towards her or a loss of self-control.

Summing up, there’s more evidence which makes us accuse him, but if we actually did accuse him, there would always be that ‘what if’ remaining as what really happened only knows it one person now who can manipulate the story to their liking.
