CRISTIANO RONALDO REFUSES TO SIGN AN AUTOGRAPH TO A 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL

The 27-year-old did not appear to have to put his club's rivalry with the Blaugrana behind him in the off-season as he ignored the request for an autograph from a little girl.

Although many won’t believe this, it is true. A young girl from Portugal came to Barcelona for holiday and her parents bought her a Barça T-shirt. A couple of months later, she was waiting for the players of the Portuguese national team after training and Cristiano refused to sign her an autograph because she was wearing that Barça T-shirt.
Therefore, this girl’s father sent an open letter to the Portuguese newspaper “Record” explaining this and it is now all over the internet, specially on twitter as it has already been Trending Topic.

This is the letter addressed to Ronaldo:
“Hello, I wish I can look into Ronaldo’s eyes and tell him that lost a fan, no matter how insignificant it may seem this fact. I’ll tell you what happened. Today, my daughter, 10, had scheduled a workout, but she found out that the same complex hosts the training of Portugal squad, therefore her workout finished earlier. She received permission to go along with her colleagues to where Portugal team was preparing to see their idols from close range.
When I went to pick her up, I expected to find her very happy, but it was not so. She was quite sad and depressed. When I asked her what happened, she said: “Cristiano did not want to give me an autograph, because I wore a Barcelona t-shirt. “I was speechless, I did not know what to say. I had bought the t-shirt when I was in Barcelona and she used it for training. If we visited Madrid most likely the t-shirt would have been different…You can imagine the pain I felt when I looked in my daughter’s eyes and I had to explain to a 10-year-old child why a member of the national team acted like that. I would like you to explain me, because I can not do it. You, who live daily in this world, maybe you know a similar case which can explain and excuse this kind of behavior.”

Should Cristiano be ashamed for what he did, and try to contact this little girl? Or is he too proud to do so?
Is this a role model to young boys and girls, someone you would want to look up to?

  1. First of all I just wanted to say that Cristiano Ronaldo’s attitude is unacceptable, the little girl didn’t deserve that kind of gesture. This football player thinks he is much better than the rest of us, but maybe he did it because he wanted to show his true love for his team, Real Madrid. As the little girl was wearing a Barça t-shirt, Real’s Madrid opposing team.

However, I personally believe that he just did to show off, as he doesn’t have any kind of respect for anyone, even for people of his own country. As well as that, this little girl is only 10 years old she wouldn’t wear the t-shirt with bad intentions, she’s just an innocent kid that was looking for his autograph.

Despite this, Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be looking for this girl and reward her for his intolerable acts. If he does so, it would possibly be because of his image in order to preserve a good image for his public or his followers, not because he wants to as he is too proud for it.

  2. I’d like to say that I totally agree with Carla. For Ronaldo, it is obvious that his pride is well above his empathy for an innocent 10-year-old girl with her hopes built up. It is noticeable, and not only for this behavior, that the footballer is incapable of seeing beyond luxuries and fame. This story leaves us all with a bitter taste. How can someone who owes his fame to his fans refuse to give an autograph simply because she’s wearing the t-shirt which belongs to his rival team? Well, his acts leave a lot to be desired.
While it may be true that the young girl could have misinterpreted Cristiano’s words, we all know how he has constantly his feet off the ground and that his increasing hostility towards Barça has not only been showed in this occasion.
In my opinion, the football player should take in account the disappointment of some of his fans, as this story has now spread out. Even though his number of fans is, unfortunately, massive; he should be conscientious of the effect of his acts on them, or, on the contrary, he’ll find himself bound to be forgotten.

  3. After reading about this outrageous situation, I can know understand why Cristiano Ronaldo is so hated and booed by the rest of football-followers who do not belong to his team.

It has to be admitted that he is a good player but he is far behind Messi’s talent and even when it comes to the treatment he gives to all of his fans, and this has been clearly demonstrated by himself.

On the other hand, we should understand the impotence he feels when he has to admit the supremacy of Barça team and its players. Poor thing, he has to live with this harsh reality throughout his daily life. We should understand his reaction when he is being remembered about this by an “insignificant” 10-year-old girl who is only aiming for an autograph of one of her idols.

I hope this piece of news is being retransmitted worldwide so the population gets to know how little humanity this player has, and I also expect that Ronaldo reconsiders his actions and never, ever acts like this with one of his fans.

  4. I do not agree with Judith or any one of the other comments as the ten-year-old was wearing a barça t-shirt and barça is the direct rival of real madrid. It would be considered rude if the child would be waring a real madrid t-shirt or the portugal national team’s t-shirt but it was a barça t-shirt so it can be understandable.
On the other hand, I think that Messi would have signed a real madrid t-shirt even if he wouldn’t like to but for pure commitment he would as he is a modest player.

  5. I think that this issue goes beyond pride or T-shirt colours. First of all, football is a game, a game which is watched by millions of people, specially young kids. Therefore, young kids, who dream of becoming one of them one day should feel that football players are the example to follow and therefore footballers should be the ones who outburst fair play and honesty. However, it seems as if they don't understand that.

Moreover, there is something very important which seems as if footballers don't really understand neither. They (football players) think that they are very important and that they are the centre of such huge media coverage and mass of people. However, although this might sound confusing, in my opinion they are not.

They think they can do whatever they want and treat fans as they want just because they earn millions of Euros per year, but in fact, what they don't realize is that every single person who stands at the airport waiting from them to arrive, or every single person who stands in front of the hotel entrance waiting for them to appear (and not even they smile at them), every single person who goes to see them play every Sunday and every single person who buys a newspaper in which they appear is in fact much more important than what they are.

Think about it, if people weren't desperate to see them play they wouldn't have such outstanding wages nor benefits. If the are paid such it is because TVs and sponsors pay huge amounts of money to the clubs because of the amount of people they are able to move and to, up to a certain extent brain-wash (but that's another debate).

Therefore, shouldn't football players feel grateful with every person standing in a huge queue waiting to have a piece of paper signed by one of his or, in this case, her, idols? Football players should remember from which background they come from. which, sadly enough, in many cases turns to be a very humble and poor one, and that if they manage to get out from their is obviously because of their talent, hard work and determination but because of the millions of people that, just as the little kid we are concerned about, only need a drawing from them to be happy and to smile too.

So, do you think that it easy that difficult to sign a paper to a young kid? Don't you think that the smile of that kid and the joy in which the heart of that kid would have been filled is above colors of T-shirts or skin? We live in a world full of hatred, but there are few people who have the power to makes us smile even when there is no reason to do so, shouldn't we have the right to smile?

I think we all agree in the fact that what Cristiano Ronaldo did was bad, and I think he should try to contact the little girl and try to mend what he has done.

However, in my opinion we cannot judge a very good football player that has been in the middle of many problems and tensions between two great football teams as Barça and Madrid and that, at the same time, has been pressed by the constant stress of being or not better than Messi. So I think it’s perfectly normal for him to believe that anyone wearing a Barça shirt and asking for an autograph can try to act offensively, even from a 10 year old girl, because I’m sure he has had plenty of Barça followers that have gone to see him and have tried to make fun of him in any way.

On the other side, I think that Cristiano shouldn’t bother in the colour of the t-shirt, he should have thought in the respect and admiration shown by the little girl towards him by wanting his signature in a piece of paper, a football or elsewhere.

In conclusion, I think Ronaldo should try and contact with her but he doesn’t deserve too many pressure or concern about this mishap.
