Barrier or protection?

Will a wall (or fence) keep danger out or simply bottle-up people's anger and frustration?

They've been tried throughout history and are currently constructed close to borders in Palestine, the United States and Ceuta-Melilla to name just a few places. In your opinion, have they or do they ever work? Are they justified or unacceptable?

Here is some footage of the wall in Palestine - the first 4 minutes is enough to get the idea of its effect.

And here, if you are interested, in one artist's reaction. Have you heard of Banksy? He's all the rage in the UK and the USA at the moment. It's worth doing an image search for his graffiti.
