After a tiring ten days of study, I'm sure you've asked yourself more than once if it all is 'worth it'.
Exams. Sixth Form. School.
Does the effort pay off? Or is it simply a question of what grade you get?
In fact, are grades all you get out of it? Was there not anything that was worth doing in itself? Or anything you'll remember... for the right reasons or the wrong ones!
This post is an invitation for nostalgic reminiscing, (careful) complaining, or even for some suggestions for future changes to our much-loved 1st batx course content. Fire away!
I think that studying very hard these days is worth it.
ReplyDeleteFirstly because when you get the marks of the exams that you have done and you've got good grades, you a very satisfactory sensation inside of you.
Also it is better to get good grades when you have to, because if you fail then you have to recuperate all the things that you have failed, meanwhile all your friends have finished studying and are engoying themselves.
So all this leads me to a conclusion that you have to study when you have to, because if at the first time you don't pass and fail, then you will have to study later and maybe laziness can invade you because all your friends have finished studying and they are enjoying themselves

Of course, when we are studying we have to put a great effort into it, for ones the effort is bigger than for others, but every student has to put some of it.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion studying is hard, but you have to find a way of motivating yourself that keeps you up and allows you to keep studying until you reach your objective. Some may have the fact of learning stuff as a motivation, but about 95% of us study to achieve a high grade and therefore, be able to study in the university we aim for.
Despite this, studying will surely provide you some new knowledge that will help you in different situations, so studying is not only memorizing for one or two days and after the exam just forget about it, in fact it will be really profitable after some time.
Now that I have the possibility to tell you what I think about how the exams have been planned I will not waste the opportunity. In my opinion the way of laying-out the exams is really badly done, we have 10 exams in 5 days (2 per day), therefore we have to split the previous day of the exam in two to be able to study both. So in my opinion we should have 1 per day and finish them after 2 weeks, because now in Bachillerato the exams are really important, and much more the Global ones, because it is worth half of the whole grade of the term, so we should have enough time to prepare them. Teachers may say that it is our problem because we can start studying as early as we want, but many of us are not fully aware of it until we have the exams in a week time, and it is then too late. So yes, it will surely help having one exam each day although some students also have to change their habits.
On the other hand, making the exam period last for so long could make some of the students abandon and loose motivation, so they will put less effort into it and the grades would be lower. Really the period of studying is the same, because if you have the 10 exams in 5 days you will have to start studying at least, one week before, and if you have 1 per day you could study it just the day before, so it is really just two different ways of seeing it although the study is practically the same, so we could consider that it as discipline issue.
To conclude I would like to refer to the question done by the writer of this post and this last idea I have talked about. I think that the benefit of studying (without considering the fact of obtaining high grades) will be grater if we have more time between exam and exam, because when we really learn is when we understand what we are memorizing and we have time to do so. With this I am trying to say that if we have to study 2 exams when we could be studying just 1 we will memorize really mechanically without trying to understand what we are actually memorizing because of lack of time.
So as we have just seen, studying can be a pain at the moment, (although when studying a lot you are more used to it and it requires less effort when trying to concentrate) but it will finally be really beneficial to you in all aspects.

Worth it? That depends really. At our age our thoughts are probably short and therefore we might only give importance to grades (which that's what occurs to me and most of us in many cases).
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think and I'm pretty sure that we'll see the use of this effort now, in a near future, when we get to do important exams at university or when we get to work in important firms and we see that we're perfectly capable of working under pressure and being able to deal with it.
But I insist on the fact that we'll have the reward of this big effort we're making now in the future and not now.
Another I'd like to point out is that the idea that exams test someone's knowledge of a topic is a myth. I've seen people who aren't clever at all but can have high grades only because they've memorized evry single word taught in that determined subject.
However I admit that it is a perfect way of testing whether a student can assimilate enough information in order to take higher studies or not. Lso I can assure you that exams reinforce memory and that's a very positive aspect indeed.

Hello!
ReplyDeleteFrom my point of view, I think studying, on one hand, can be beneficial, because you learn about a lot of different areas of knowledge, but at the same time the way we do it is utterly a waste of time. This is because we have brain-breaking exams which are all concentrated in very little space of time and which also include a very large amount of syllabus, so we end up memorising stupidly large texts which we then forget after doing the exam.
It would be farther more useful if we learned things by practising with them a lot or rather learning to understand concepts, instead of trying to memorise them and then vomit them in the exam and get a ten.
That’s why in my opinion, marks don’t really show your level of knowledge and effort in learning, because a person who is not very bright and doesn’t work in class can go to an exam having memorised large texts and end up with a 10, which is of no use because after a day or so they will forget all these concepts she has memorised in a few hours before the exam. She got a ten but I’m sure that if you ask that person again after a few weeks, she will no remember what she had memorised previously.
Personally, I opine that it’s not fair that it depends on your capacity of memorisation that you enter a university or not. However, I suppose it’s very difficult to measure in what way people have learned certain concepts, so that is the most closer way to measure a person’s ability to learn subjects.
Hi its a pleasure to write in this blog
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion studying is measured only by grades because after all the grades decide your future by giving you a better status as a student.
But I believe that in the future we will see all this knowledge useful and will help us in our normal life. Some students as me feel really extresed this days where you dont know what will be your future and when you get a great grade you have a happy day while when you fail you get really on your nerves.
I would love another way to measure our knowledge as getting out of our brain without making an exam

In my opinion studying a lot for these exams it's very important for two different reasons: your grades and your practice.
ReplyDeleteAs far as grades is concerned, all of us would like to have A+ grades. However, many of us can't and will not achieve them in our hole academic life. It's very frequent when being a teenager that you worry about your grades, passing each course or getting a high average. I think this worries have positive aspects, but sometimes they can discourage pupils during their academic life. Who hasn't worried about failing an exam? Or not passing course or ending the course with a very low average?
When talking about practice you may not know what I mean. I mean by practice the fact that studying for these exams, which require a long studying time and a very hard effort helps you when facing even worser exams, like Selectividad or University Global exams, which are surely much harder than ours. The fact of studying until late at night gives us an experience of the suffering that a pupil will surely have when reached even higher leves of knowledge.
Generally speaking, studying for a very long time is, although anyone likes it, one of the most useful ways of preparing yourself when facing other worser difficulties.

After the ending of the exam’s week, it gives place for the regarding of the final grades. Students start to wonder whether they could’ve added more effort to these exams or if they accept them.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Bachillerato students, feel that the effort isn’t that important as the grade. I mean if you earn a high grade without having studied that much the night before, even if you accomplished that copying, you don’t care that much! The end justifies the means.
This may sound cold, but it’s the awful truth. At the end of these two preparation years will have to regard our final results and decide what universities and colleges may accept us, as students, if your grade is under the average, don’t bother even to apply for it.
In the other hand, teachers may say you must study to cover the basic ideas that will help you during your professional life. But this, from my point of view, is a task that must be accomplished during class time. Ergo, during teacher’s explanations in class, it’s the student’s time to ask, to counter-attack with the ideas presented, to argument your opinion.
During exam time, it’s the students opportunity to earn the highest grade possible, it doesn’t matter what you do, (whether you study the night before or many weeks before, whether you copy or learn the information, whether you fail other subjects to accomplish a high mark in another, etc.) what matters at the end is the grades printed on your file
In addition, to these two years of stressful life and constant studying, the student learns how to become responsible, how to organize himself for future events. University is also stressful, it is compulsory to learn study techniques and also to develop an idea towards what your interests are.
So, concluding, I think that it’s more important the grade than what you study because many of the subjects won’t be needed in your future career, but it is here when you learn what you like, so maybe one or two subjects will be frankly useful for you, the other will help your entry to college.
