Getting away!

You'll never forget your 'viatge fin de curs' for the rest of your lives. Make the most of it! Here, you have three questions, depending on the date you comment on this post:
  • Italy awaits you: what do you hope to get out of the trip?
  • You're there: what was the day like?
  • You're back: what were the highlights?
Use the blog to record the memorable moments, the gaffs, the disasters and your thoughts. Try some travel writing. It is probably the best way to break into 'serious journalism'.

To find out more about your destination, try the following:

  1. I've been to both Florence and Venice and they are truly incredible. They are full of life, people, bars and restaurants, etc. In addition, the entire area of Tuscany is beautiful and full of culture to observe. I am convinced that we'll have it all, strengthen our relationships and we'll get along better with teachers toward our future classes which could be more enjoyable!

  2. Hi, I've also been to Florence and Venice during a week and two weeks respectively.

Florence is very nice at first site, nevertheless the only things that are beautiful are the 15th centuary buildings and sculptures, the thing that most impressed me when i was there was the cathedral, it's simply great. But again, if you are looking for modernity, don´t go to Florence.

In comparison, Venice is a very different city, the main attraction is probably the chanels that are all over the place with their gondoliers that create a more romantic place. However, Venice also has lots of museums and buidings that probably aren't as important as the ones in Florence but they are also quite old.

In conclusion, the main atraction of this two cities is the art and they're orientated to tourists. So if you like art it's a wonderful place for you.

  3. A channel links two places and is usually used to pass water or some other liquid between buildings, fields and other places. A canal, in comparison, is an artificial river used to make transport (usually industrial) more efficient. Venice has canals.

  4. My biggest hope is that this trip turns out to be one of the best experiences of school life, and I really think it will.

Actually, I've never been either to Venice or Florence, so I'm not only visiting a brand new place for me but I'm doing it with my friends. It's not something we get to do everyday, it's not like back when we were in ESO that we went skiing, this is different. The trip combines all of us coexisting with each other 24 hours a day! We'll see how that results...

  5. I cannot be more excited about this trip. I've been waiting for this week with my school friends for a very long time. Since we entered la Educació Sencundària Obligatòria (E.S.O.) we've been raising money to make the total cost much cheaper.

I expect this voyage to be something to remember for the rest of our lifes. It should be a week to enjoy each other's company. Friendships will be much deeper after living together for one week in a foreign country, in which we don't speak the local language. I'm quite sure, that after all, it will be a great experience.

  6. In less than 24 hours we will be all landing at Rome’s international airport, if not already in Florence. I can’t wait any longer to jump, myself with my school friend, into this wonderful adventure which seems to be “el viaje de fin de curso” to the Toscana. We have all been waiting a long time for it and can barely believe it is so lose now. I don’t know how I’m going to handle all this new emotions or if the nerves are going to get control of my body (specially in my case being the trip so far away in first place) but one thing I’m sure is that Venice and Florence will give the size.

I personally have been before in the Toscana and I just have wonderful memories about it. The canals in Venice, the museums in Florence, the falling tower in Pisa... All of Italy is full of incredible and also romantic places which at lest you must visit once in a life.

Despite this I must say I’m a bit scared because these types of trips, full of extreme experiences, just can end in two ways: strengthening our interpersonal relationships and closing up together or completely destroying our friendships. It is big risk to assume, but I nothing will prevent me from going. It is really worthwhile!!

  7. hi,

having been on the trip and reflected about the highs and lows I must say that it was a one of the best experiences of my time at school. we all got on well and enjoyed eachothers company greatly. personally, I believe that the fact the trip has brought us all closer together is one of the nicest aspects of the trip. we have bonded as a yeargroup and I have got to know people a lot better over this week than the rest of the school year. on the same note we have even established closer and more amicable relationships with the teachers which is a plus as we will get on better at school and make the classes more bearable!

another aspect that really blew me away was the beauty and the charm of all the places we visited such as Florence, Venice, San Giminiano and my personal favourite Siena. I must say that one exception to the charming and enchanting places we visited has to be Lido di Jesolo which was more reminiscent of LLoret de Mar than Tuscany. However one of the highlights was playing rugby on the beach so all in all it was an agreable experience.

To sum up, I had a great time and it lived up to my expectations, which had been building since 1st ESO. my only complaint is that we can't stay there and that it will make regular school life seem a lot worse in comparison!

  8. In one word: unforgettable. With any doubt this trip has been one of the best moments in oak house school. All students, including me, will remember that marvelous week. This trip has adjoin more the relationship between members of the year grade and this is fantastic and this demonstrates that the trip hasn’t been only fun, also educational and profit for knowing things about live.
However, we’ve visited many places like Florence, Siena, San Giminiano and my favourite Venice, in one way because we played a rugby match, one of the most rattling highlights in the trip. In addition, if I had to choose another place after Venice, I would select Florence because we met new people and because It was very fun sharing moments with friends. About the hotels, in Florence it was terrible because of the showers. Lido di Jesolo (Venice) was much better because it was near to the beach and the rooms and food where m0re acceptable than Florence, but, before travelling, we knew that hotels would not be such as good as the hotels people go with their families.
In conclusion, a memorable trip, because of friends and also teachers, that did the possible to make us have a wonderful time, as we did.

  9. I totally agree with “Santi NG”. It was a memorable trip, an experience that all of us enjoyed.
I had never been to Italy before, and I hadn’t imagined it so beautiful. People always told me that the ruins were really worth visiting, but I always thought that if I went there I was going to visit a bunch of stones. I couldn’t be more wrong.
Cities such as Venice or Sienna still conserve their medieval structure. There are hardly two or three straight streets, and the buildings are so old and delightful. I can assure you it’s hard for me to find words to express what you feel when you’re just ambling around Venice. It is a combination of sensations: it is the peace and quiet of a narrow street, the hustle and bustle of Piazza San Marco, the colour of the flowers on the balconies and the aroma of a good cappuccino. If, moreover, you are with your friends, the experience is even better. I’m serious: if you haven’t visited the Tuscany yet, you desperately need to take a plane to Italy.
To conclude, I want to say that I think that I speak on behalf of all 1st Bachillerato students when I say this trip was absolutely awesome.

  10. Now that we're back from our great trip, I'd like to point out the amazing time we all had. In my opinion (and I'm sure that everyone feels the same as I do), going together on such a trip is an incredible opportunity to bond and to get to know each other in all those aspects not related to school. We had fun everywhere we went, even when it meant having to wake up early or having to walk for over two hours. Every day, every city and every cathedral we visited meant we spent more time with each other, including teachers, with who we also had an amazing time.

I'm sure we'd all agree in the huge amount of stuff we learnt in all of our visits, which means it wasn't only free time for us, but it was so well organized, the various monuments we visited almost felt like free time to me.

The only thing that didn't exactly work out as planned was our flight back to Barcelona. As you may know, we were surprised by a spontaneous strike that made us wait in the airport for about 5 hours. I have to say, though, that we were all in such a good mood and felt like we had gotten so much out of the trip, that students' and teachers' reactions were not at all as bad as they could have been; we were even able to make out of such a situation something to laugh about.

  11. What an amazing trip!

I personally agree with Carla. This trip to Italy really made all the year group stay together and know each other in a different way, which we might not be able to do it during our normal routine/everyday life.

We all got really well with each other, and this really made a great impact on the trip. Even if we had to walk for hours, we found a way to keep us energetic and happy and this helped a lot.

I think in a few years time we will all remember this trip as 7 days non stop, laughing, eating, visiting, walking, taking photos absolutely everywhere and above all enjoying every minute.

As you all know, I’m new at the school however after this trip I feel like I’ve been in the school for quite a long time. And this is thanks to all of you which made this trip something remarkable to me and I would like to thank you all.
